Our latest cause for celebration is the integration of another new service, with an incredible new member of our team at the helm. We’re delighted to introduce Sam, our hair and makeup artist extraordinaire, by way of also introducing our new hair and makeup add-on service.

How long have you been doing hair and makeup?
I’ve been licensed and working in the beauty industry since 2012, so over 14 years now, which is actually insane to say out loud! It definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been that long because I still genuinely love doing it.
What got you into this field?
I’ve always loved beauty, hair, makeup, fashion, and basically anything that lets me be creative. I also really love the transformation part of it. Not necessarily making someone look like a completely different person, but taking what they already have and making them feel like the best version of themselves. That moment when someone looks in the mirror and you can tell they instantly feel more confident is probably my favorite part.
Who are your inspirations?
Honestly, I pull inspiration from everywhere. Other artists, photographers, fashion, celebrities, social media, and even random people I see out in public. I’m constantly noticing hair color, placement, makeup, skin, lighting, all of it. I also love when clients bring me inspiration photos because I like figuring out how to take that look and make it work for them instead of just copying it exactly.
What should people know before getting their hair and/or makeup done before a photo shoot of any kind?
Come prepared, but don’t overthink it. Clean, moisturized skin is perfect for makeup. For hair, clean and dry hair with minimal product usually gives us the most flexibility.
Definitely bring inspiration photos. “Natural,” “soft glam,” and “full glam” can mean completely different things to different people, so photos make communicating the vision so much easier.
Also, makeup can photograph much softer than it looks in person, so sometimes we need to go a little more defined than you’re used to for it to really show up beautifully on camera.
What are some dos and don’ts you wish clients knew before getting their hair and makeup done?
- Do tell me what you like and what you absolutely hate. I promise you are not hurting my feelings. If you hate dark brows, heavy lashes, middle parts, or anything else, tell me.
- Do bring inspiration photos, but also be open to adjusting the look for your own face shape, hair texture, skin tone, and features.
- Don’t get a random chemical peel, facial, spray tan, self-tan, or try brand-new skincare the night before a big event. That is definitely not the time to experiment.
Most importantly, don’t be afraid to speak up. I want you to leave feeling like yourself, just hotter.
Favorite makeup brand or product?
This one is hard because I’m not really loyal to just one brand. I’m more of an “if it works, it stays in the kit” person. I love anything that lasts, photographs beautifully, and still makes skin look like skin.
Go-to hair style?
Big, soft, lived-in waves. Every single time. They’re sexy, flattering, photograph beautifully, and can be dressed up or down without ever looking too stiff or overdone.
Best kept trade secret?
Skin prep and the finishing touches.
Everyone wants to know the magic foundation, but if the skin underneath isn’t prepped well, no foundation is going to save it.
The same goes for hair. Sometimes the difference between “done” and “wow” is literally five extra minutes smoothing flyaways, adjusting face-framing pieces, breaking up curls, and making sure everything lays right from every angle.
Favorite type of shoot?
Anything glam, beauty, editorial, or a little dramatic. I love when I can be creative and the whole look comes together: hair, makeup, outfit, lighting, and attitude. Give me good glam and dramatic lighting and I’m in heaven!
Professional or celebrity makeup artist you wish you could meet?
Honestly, I can’t pick just one.
Jeffree Star because I’ve followed his career and artistry for years, and his knowledge of makeup, products, color, and the beauty industry is incredible. I would love to sit down and talk makeup with him.
Mario Dedivanovic because his technique is just beautiful. He really perfected that soft, sculpted, polished glam that somehow looks dramatic and effortless at the same time.
Finally, Huda Kattan, because I love that she’s not just an artist. She built an entire beauty empire. I’d want to talk to her about makeup, of course, but also the business side and how she turned her passion into something so huge.
