At the risk of dating ourselves, we invite you to recall the scene from the 1953 Disney movie, Peter Pan. Nestled around Wendy Darling, the Lost Boys listen, some shedding a tear or two as she sings the lyrics to “Your Mother and Mine,” specifically,

What makes mothers all that they are?

Might as well ask, ‘What makes a star?’”

Setting science aside, we love the image of mothers as synonymous with stardust. Mothers are magical, there’s no doubt about it; however, as we shared in our recent blog post, many of them fade to the background, rather than burn brightly as the center of attention.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, our team would like to change that, and are offering a discount on motherhood photo sessions designed to authentically celebrate your mom and her magical vibe.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a session but feel overwhelmed by the idea of planning outfits, managing the kids, or making everything “perfect,” take a deep breath.

We know how to prepare for a motherhood photo session and we’re here to help you do the same.

Strike a Feeling, Not a Pose

Sorry, Madonna.

Before thinking about wardrobe or location, start with the feeling you want these images to express. What makes mom, mom? Dial into her personality, even her quirks, and try to envision what the ideal photo would feel (not look) like.

Not to get all hippy-dippy on you, but the most beautiful photos really do begin with intention.

Skip worrying about forced smiles or picture-perfect poses, think about the moments that best reflect your everyday life together. What does that look like? You tell us!

Maybe it’s reading on the couch, baking in the kitchen, walking your favorite trail, even window shopping — we’ve shot it all.

Remember, we aren’t aiming for perfection. Our target is the truth. Authenticity. A genuine moment of motherhood magic.

Be Comfortable and You’ll Feel Comfortable.

The best outfits are the ones that help everyone feel comfortable and confident. Think soft, complementary colors rather than exact matching. As the late Moira Rose once admonished, “I didn’t like the matchy-matchy skirt and blazer.”

In addition to anything “matchy-matchy,” we also suggest you avoid busy logos, neon colors (leave those safely relegated to the 1980s where they belong), or any distracting patterns.

Try to hone in on creams, warm neutrals, soft blues, muted greens, and gentle floral, all of which tend to photograph beautifully, especially during spring sessions. Most importantly, choose clothing that allows movement and comfort, especially for moms and children.

This is not the day for anything stiff, itchy, or restrictive because the easier everyone can move, cuddle, sit, and play, the more natural the session will feel. When it comes to professional family portraits, comfort is king… or should we say queen?

There’s No Such Thing as Perfectly Behaved Kids

Look, we started this post with a reference to Neverland’s Lost Boys. They’re our kind of people. We don’t expect perfectly behaved children on our shoots because, frankly, we’ve never met them and, unlike believing in fairies, we don’t believe perfectly behaved children exist. And we’re grateful for that.

Not convinced?

Some of the most cherished images come from the in-between moments and that’s why children do not need to sit still and smile on command for beautiful images to happen. We actually prefer the opposite.

Our sessions are designed to make space for movement, play, and real emotion. Those authentic interactions are what turn moments into memories and photos into heirlooms.

Likewise to “Looking Perfect”

We’ve said it before, as have many others, but it’s worth repeating: moms carry an enormous invisible load. As such, they can sometimes unwittingly embrace that anonymity and then tear themselves apart at the very thought of standing in the spotlight.

You do not need to show up looking airbrushed or polished beyond recognition.

Come as the version of yourself your family knows and loves. The one who comforts, laughs, nurtures, and shows up every day. That is the beauty we want to preserve because this is the mother you are, the one your children recognize.

Your Most Natural Environment

Some families love the polished feel of the studio — great! Others feel most comfortable at home, outdoors, or in a location that already holds meaning.

That’s why our motherhood sessions can happen at home in your everyday spaces, in our studio featuring fine-art lighting, outdoors amongst the newly sprouted spring blooms or at just about any favorite family spot.

Not unlike the right wardrobe, the ideal location is the one that helps everyone relax.

Believe in the Process

The magic of a professional session is that, for once, you moms do not need to make the magic happen. That’s what we’re here for. We guide the experience in a way that allows real connection to unfold naturally. We’re all about those moments that feel like your actual life, but beautifully preserved.

Because Mothers are the Real Stars of the Show

Use this session to step out from behind the lens and, instead, step into the frame. More than photographs, these images will become central to your family’s story, just as you are.

A Lasting Gift with a Limited-Time Offer

The beauty of a motherhood photo session is that it gives your family something far more lasting than a traditional gift. Unlike flowers that fade or gifts that are soon forgotten, a professionally captured portrait becomes part of your family’s legacy, something to be displayed, cherished, and passed down for generations.

To make this Mother’s Day even more meaningful, our team is currently offering a limited-time promotion: 50% off all portrait fees, plus a complimentary 13” x 19” print from your session.

This special offer is available only through April 30th, 2026, so we encourage you to reserve your session as soon as possible.

Step into the Frame this Mother’s Day

Make this the season you move from behind the camera and front and center into the story your family already holds dear. Book your Mother’s Day portrait session before April 30th, 2026 to take advantage of our discounted offer. Book now to catch those magical motherhood moments!
